Bonjour mes chéris, digital nomads! Ready for an unforgettable Spiti Valley adventure? This summer, I'm guiding a select group of six fellow festivalgoers on a curated trek through this breathtaking region of India. Prepare for an experience rich in culture, stunning landscapes, and the vibrant energy of fellow travelers – but be aware that summer is peak season, so expect crowds.
Our journey begins with a flight into Delhi, followed by an onward journey to Kaza, the heart of Spiti. This section of the trip will cost approximately €500 per person, covering flights and ground transportation. The journey itself is an adventure! Imagine rugged mountain roads, stunning vistas, and the anticipation of what lies ahead. We'll be traveling in a comfortable, reliable vehicle suitable for the terrain.
The Spiti Valley's high-altitude desert landscape is truly mesmerizing. Expect dramatic mountain ranges, ancient monasteries clinging to cliffsides, and vibrant blue skies. The weather will be warm and sunny during the day, but nights can get chilly, even in summer. Pack layers accordingly!
Expect to encounter a blend of cultures – the warm hospitality of the Spitian people, their unique traditions, and the energy of fellow travellers. You’ll hear the sounds of prayers from the monasteries, the chatter of the local markets, and perhaps even the soulful melodies of traditional Spitian music. The local architecture, mostly stone houses and monasteries, harmonizes beautifully with the landscape.
Dining will be a delicious mix of local and international cuisine. We'll savor authentic Spitian dishes like thukpa (noodle soup) and dhal (lentil soup), sampling fresh local produce wherever possible. You'll have the opportunity to try momos (dumplings), a delicious snack, and other treats. Budget around €30 per day per person for food. The evenings are perfect for sharing stories around a bonfire (when possible), swapping travel tales, and enjoying the magical atmosphere.
We'll visit the iconic monasteries of Kibber, Dhankar, and Tabo, each steeped in history and spiritual significance. Many tourists are drawn to this area in summer, so be prepared for crowds, particularly during peak festival times. Expect long walks and breathtaking views, especially during sunrise and sunset! We will hike a total of 100 km.
The overall cost for activities including entry fees to monasteries and other sights will be approximately €150 per person. Your accommodation will be a mix of comfortable guesthouses and homestays, providing an immersive cultural experience (€25 per night per person).
Finally, let's talk about the total cost. For this 10-day Spiti Valley adventure, expect to pay around €1,850 per person (excluding personal shopping and souvenirs). This includes flights from Delhi, ground transportation, accommodation, food, and activity costs. This does not include travel insurance or personal expenses.
